My Favourite Cleaning Products
In making this lists it reminds me once again that I am trying to reduce the number of cleaning products I use and keep in my home. Why? I don’t want to have entire cupboards full of cleaning products, nor do I want to spend the money it costs to purchase them. With that in mind, the following list is not a reduced item list, it is just products I like. As always, you do you!
- Lysol – I know many people prefer to use natural products and there are plenty of recipes out there. I think, for me, the house just doesn’t feel clean without the smell I associate with clean. That may not be a good reason, but… I also like that it disinfects. Lysol is my go-to product for cleaning bathroom surfaces and the bathroom & kitchen tile floors. I would not use it on wood floors though.
- Pledge – I use pledge for dusting. That is what my mom used, but also because I have not found something I like better. I do only use Pledge on wood surfaces. For all other surfaces I use plain water. If there is a stubborn mark, I use dish detergent or a Magic Eraser.
- Magic Eraser – The miracle scuff & stuff remover.
- Dawn Platinum Powerwash dish detergent – It works well and has so many uses besides cleaning dishes. I’ll post a list of recipes in Wednesday’s post.
- Windex – I use Windex to clean my windows, glass tabletops and mirrors. Not using too much is the key to streak-free windows, glass & mirrors.
- Bar Keeper’s Friend – It is a good and safe products for cleaning the tub and toilet or
other items that may require scrubbing. I have not tried the liquid version, but do use the
powder. - Bounce – I don’t use it for laundry as it can compromise the air flow in the dryer lint screen. I do like it for dusting, especially things like baseboards as it helps to repel future dust.
- Arm & Hammer Sensitive Skin laundry detergent – It works and it doesn’t bother my skin.
- Easy Off Oven Cleaner – I don’t like the toxicity of it, but the newer one with less fumes does a good job of cleaning the oven and doesn’t bother my lungs. If you have a compromised respiratory system you may want to try one of the Dawn Platinum Powerwash recipes for cleaning your oven.
- Ammonia – I like ammonia for getting the stubborn burnt-on food off of the stove top burner drip pans. I put each drip pan in a Ziploc bag and I use as little ammonia as possible, just enough to wet the surface of the drip pans and then I leave it overnight to soak. The next morning the burnt-on food just rinses off. Make sure to use gloves and to avoid smelling the product. Ammonia is toxic to smell and handle.
